A meticulously presented journal account of his travels in Canada and the USA, from embarking on HMS Rinaldo to his return. The journal must have been put together after his return as it looks as if it could have been printed.
The journal begins with a drawing of the Rinaldo and continues with a replica of the day by day ship’s log of the sailing from Plymouth to Halifax, Nova Scotia. The narrative then follows, also beginning with the sailing, where, although a passenger, Crichton helped with many day to day chores. On arrival in Canada, armed with many letters of introduction from Lady Brydges, he entered with gusto into the social life of the well-connected gentleman. His travels through, and observations on Quebec, Ontario, Boston, New York and Washington make very interesting reading.
