  • W.S. Smith had been a policeman, and gives details of his career, beginning at Bow Street, London and finishing as Governor of Leominster Gaol. However, chronic rheumatism forced him to retire early, and he has been unable to work since 1840. He is now destitute. He includes a copy of a testimonial given to him by the Leominster Borough Watch Committee, detailing his appointment and their favourable opinion of his tenure as senior officer at Leominster.
