This collection consists of three sequences of aerial photographs from the 1950s, 1960s and 1990s. Hereford City Council’s Planning and Surveyor’s Department contracted Air Survey Company Limited (1950s), B.K.S. Air Survey Ltd. (1960s) and Commission-Air (1990s) to conduct the aerial surveys of the City. The most extensive of these surveys, achieved by B.K.S. Survey Ltd., would have been used to judge urban sprawl, plan housing developments and chart the inner city relief road development of the latter 1960s.

This vertical aerial photograph comprises the only surviving print from this survey. It was taken by Air Survey Co. Ltd of 24 Bruton Street, London; a subsidiary of the Fairey Aviation Co., Ltd. The aircraft (C-47’s) and technical offices were based at White Waltham, Berkshire.
