The punishment book contains entries giving the date of the punishment, the name of the child involved and their age. Early entries are numerous and give the offence for which the child is punished, the “amount of punishment”, which is usually entered as a number of “strokes”. This is almost always 2, occasionally 4. The signature of the teacher who gave the punishment follows. Entries are continuous from 1901 to 1911. There are then sporadic entries for 1925 to 1930. Later entries give only infrequent occasions in 1956, 1960 and 1962 and the punishments are shown as “slaps”.
